Barclays Capital
About us
Barclays Capital is the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, providing large corporate, government and institutional clients with solutions to their financing and risk management needs. Barclays Capital has Worldwide, employs over 16,300 people and has the global reach and distribution power to meet the needs of issuers and investors worldwide. We have already enjoyed immense success and cemented our position as a world-leader in investment banking. Still a young organisation, we are growing every year and part of our point of difference is our business model – we do things differently and, as a result, over the past five years our business model has been very stable in an unstable market, and our financial results reflect this success. This approach is true of our work ethos too – Barclays Capital is a true meritocracy and has a largely flat structure. For a graduate joining the firm, this means that we will give you as much responsibility as you can handle. You may find yourself working in teams across departments, or even around the world depending on the project. So to succeed you do need an international outlook, in addition to your core skills.
Opportunities available
We have graduate and internship opportunities in areas across the Firm, including: Compliance, Corporate Communications, Finance, Global Financial Risk Management, Human Resources, Investment Banking, Legal, Marketing, Operations, Prime Services, Quantitative Analytics, Research, Sales, Structuring, Technology and Trading.
The Graduate Programme
Most Firms will tell you that graduates are key to their success. But few can demonstrate a level of commitment to match ours. Senior Managers across Barclays Capital are intrinsically involved in graduate training, giving you a remarkable degree of insight and exposure from the moment you join us. Our graduate programme starts with an intensive introduction to the Firm, our products, instruments and services, and the wider financial markets. You will gain more than a theoretical understanding, however, with a variety of case studies, workshops and presentations giving you invaluable practical knowledge and skills. You can also expect comprehensive role-specific training, plus soft skills development.
Internships
Most of our internships last for 10 weeks over the summer. We also have off-cycle opportunities available. In all cases, you will find yourself at the heart of the action. You'll gain real experience in a real role, working on anything from live transactions and marketing projects to research and analysis, according to the business area you join. As well as benefitting from extensive training before and during the programme, you will have regular opportunities to network with intern colleagues, recent graduates and senior members of the Firm.
Spring Week
We also a week long programme for first year undergraduates (or second year undergraduates studying a four year course). The Spring Week programme offers an insight into either the Front Office or Infrastructure Businesses and involves work shadowing, presentations and interactive activities. Over the course of the week, participants also have the opportunity to network with employees from new graduates to senior members of the business.
